NORTH CAROLINA TOUR GROUP VISITS GIBBS FARMS

Gibbs Farms was very pleased to be included as one of the stops for the annual tour of the Stanley County Cattleman’s Association from North Carolina. The local cattleman’s group is lead by Steve Lemons, the local livestock agent with the North Carolina Extension Service. Steve is an long-time friend of our very own Genetic & Marketing Manager, Gordon Hodges. The tour group arrived mid-afternoon and after introductions by Gibbs Farms owners, Wendell & Nan Gibbs, they were given a brief overview of the Gibbs Farms program by Operations Manager, Doug Gibbs. A tour was given of the entire sale & cattle handling facility. The entire working chute, double alley system, and all the pipe pens were built on-site by the Gibbs Farms crew. A group of SimAngus two year olds sired by Gibbs Farms herd sires Rookie & Sure Bet with their fall babies were on display. Also on display were two groups of fall yearling SimAngus heifers, all sired by Rookie & Sure Bet. Continuing on down the lane to the grass lots below the sale facility, the group got to inspect many of the Gibbs Farms herd sires including Sure Bet and Dual Focus, currently leased to ABS Global and Stetson and Infiniti, currently leased to Select Sires. After the farm tour, the evening concluded with “Ms Nan’s” prime rib dinner and all the trimmings. The tour group got to witness first hand that Gibbs Farms is a true “family” operation, as nothing was catered. All of the Gibbs Farms crew, along with several family members and friends served up a spread fit for a king.
