AUGUST 2005
Gibbs Farms Purchases
Optimal Beef Genetics Cow Herd

During the month of August, 2005, Wendell and Nan Gibbs negotiated the purchase of the well know Optimal Beef Genetics cow herd from Frank Bell and
Gordon Hodges. This purchase included just over 100 bred females, Simmental and Angus, and over 100 frozen embryos from the partnership herd of Bell and Hodges. The purchase of this historic herd is to be used to assist in the establishment of the Gibbs already growing SimAngus HyBred seedstock herd, bringing their mature cow herd to approximately 500 cows. Optimal Beef Genetics will conduct their last Bull & Replacement Female Sale in November of this year and Gibbs Farms plans to establish their first Bull & Replacement Heifer Sale in November 2006. This will assure that the Optimal Beef Genetics customers will never experience a lapse in service or the availability of quality SimGenetics in the southeast. The tradition of great Simmental and SimAngus genetics will continue from the Gibbs Farms location in Ranburne, Alabama.
